Makeup Vlog: Wings on Hooded Eyes

Having hooded eyes makes eyeliner stupid hard. Especially wings, like all I want are cute wings in all sizes but instead I get curly lines where the liner hits the outside fold of my already down-turned eyes. I’ve found that baby wings almost never work-there’s a really small area on my eyelid to work with and it’s difficult to get right. Which is a shame, I love baby wings.

But! Big wings are much easier. The bigger, the easier. For these wings, they are really like normal sized wings on most people and they are not the most giant wings I’ve done. There’s a really handy trick to getting normal sized wings on hooded eyes. I don’t remember where I saw this unfortunately. But basically, do a wing and then, while looking straight on, fill in the curl in the liner, then take that fill and taper it to a point in the crease and blend it out. I end up with either a cut crease or just a blended out shadow depending on how I blend it. Or I occasionally leave it and go for a graphic liner look which also works because it’s kind of an interesting pop when I close my eyes. I like this method because it’s the best of both worlds, I get normal looking wings when my eyes are closed (generally the blending is hidden by my hood) and I get a blended and purposeful eyeshadow look when my eyes are closed. Winning.
